And before some cantankerous bloke says "why do you need nail polish or hair care on a plane" i'm going home for the weekend only and am not bringing checked baggage, but i still have to look good.

Small bottles of nail polish are OK, just put them in a ziplock bag and carry that with you so security can see them. The hair straightener should be OK as well.
