How do you brush a toddler’s teeth?

How do you brush a toddler’s teeth?

I have a 13 month old toddler with 8 teeth: four at the top, four at the bottom. Her pediatrician said I can start brushing her teeth, but I have no clue of what kind of toothpaste or tootbrush to use.

If you go to the supermarket, you can find toothbrushes and toothpaste specially designed for toddlers.

They makes toddler toothpaste, but the flavors vary. They all taste VILE to me, but my sons likes some and hates others. Basically it is not strong tasting like mint flavor and it is safer for them to swallow until they get used to spitting.

You’ll find a huge variety of soft toddler-sized toothbrushes out there too. Don’t be discourage if you aren’t very successful at first. Establishing a routine is what is important.

My daughter is a year and a half and we introduced her to her first toothbrush when she was 8 months old. The reason why we did this was because she always saw us (mom and dad) brushing our teeth and just stared. We bought her toothbrush and toothpaste from walmart and she started using it as a lollipop. Now that she’s older she’s mimicking (sp) us and trying to brush her teeth properly. If your toddler lets you, you can use a washcloth to just rub her teeth or try brushing them with a baby brush, otherwise, you can let her do it herself and she’ll eventually get it right :o )

There is toothpaste for little children that doesn’t have fluoride in it, use that. Don’t use toothpaste that has fluoride in it, it can be dangerous if swallowed. There are also children’s toothbrushes too.
