No, it's not. If they don't sell it in a hair salon or use it to wash your hair before they cut it, then it's probably not a professional beauty care line. It's just like Suave and all those brands, just commercial department store-ish hair products.

No, Garnier is not what is considered to be a professional beauty care line. Anything that can be purchased in a drug or discount store (i.e. Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, grocery stores etc.) is not a professional product. Even if you see professional lines (i.e. Redken, Matrix, Bed Head etc.) in these stores, they aren't legitimate either. Professional supply companies DO NOT sell to those stores. The products on the shelves are "gray market" products, and are not to be trusted.

Back to your original question. Garnier shampoos and conditioners are made with different ingredients than professional products. The ingredients are not as high of quality and when used for long periods of time actually do damage to the hair shaft, and scalp. The shampoos include different types of ammonia which can be very drying to the hair and scalp. Often times, the conditioners contain a type of wax that, while making your hair shine, can build up over time and cause breakage. Over-the-counter hair color is also of a lesser quality than professional hair color.

The only true source for professional hair care is in your stylist. Though it may seem more expensive, professional products are more concentrated, and so you should be using much less. It only takes a dime-sized amount of shampoo, and a quarter-sized amount of conditioner.
