II hit my toenail and it about to come off. How should I care for it so it won't get infected?
Answer by Joe Booboo
Even though it will eventually come off, try to keep it on as long as you can with a band aid and some antiseptic cream. That way when it does come off it won't be so sensitive and painful. You will know when it is ready to be left uncovered. But it might take as long as 6 months before it is fully grown..
Good luck

You probably won't have that problem unless you really ripped it off. I lost one a year ago after a half marathon. It first had a big blood blister under the nail, then that nail came off in a week. When it did there was a very thin layer of what appeared to be a very weak nail so there was protection to the nail bed. It took another six months for a real nail to completely re-grow.
