Isn't that hypocritical? Aren't they real objectifying themselves? Why is beauty so important to women, but get mad if a man reacts to it? Is beauty a blessing and curse to women for this reason?

Non-feminists care about beauty; feminists don't want to be defined by it. (I wonder why... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1344/843711816_685864648a_o.jpg

I don't think girls mind when men react to their beauty. When someone tells me, "You're beautiful" it doesn't bother me. But when guys make crude and sexual comments to me it's annoying only because it's scary (especiallly if I don't know them) and it's just gross.
Women don't try to be pretty for men. It's saturday morning and I just did my hair because it looked like crap, and I don't plan on going anywhere today. All the things women do, aren't always to get a man's attention.

As in doodle...example it depends on how you look at the picture.
Feminists will look at it at face value.
I think more people will be more sophisticated on the reason why this is happening.
When I was younger and used to go out to the disco ( showing my age ) I got into a very interesting conservation with an extremely intelligent 'womanizer'. ( which I aspired to but never quite had the confidence)
Any ways he pointed out to me that it was the plain women for want of a better word who were the ones walking round with slogans on their tee shirts such as animal rights, minority rights etc. Though at first I was incredulous about this claim a good 30 minutes studying our enviorment confirmed the truth of what he was saying.
Basically we all seek attention.
This women in the picture wouldn't get any attention if she never had the board.
So could it really be that simple?
I think it is possible however someone tries to pretend to themselves this is not the case.

Women don't necessarily care about beauty because they want to, but because they've been taught that looks was very important for a girl since childhood. Women who don't wear make up even get to be called tomboys or unfeminine. Beauty even tends to be more important than their intelligence. You'll notice that when people comment on a male presentator or a male artist, they're more likely to talk about what he does, when it's about a female one, there will always be some comments about how she dresses, whether she gained weigh or not, how pretty she is, etc...always. Another good example are singers, just think about Rihanna or Nicole scherzinger, if they weren't pretty, they would be nothing. But ugly male artists like lil wayne get to become millionaires. Why? Because people care about his raps, not his looks. There aren't many very ugly female celebrities. No wonder women have much much much less self confidence when it comes to their looks than men and do everything to look like the supermodel. Whether it's conscious or not, women in this society have to be beautiful in order to be feminine, it isn't really a choice.
Feminists just don't want women to be known for their beauty but rather for what's in their head, just like men.

They only get mad if they're not interested in the man who notices.

Because men are more visual creatures - a man will often state his partner is beautiful, but you will almost never hear a woman describing her partner that way - they will say he is a good person, or is funny some mental attribute. This is because men are visual and women are verbal - so women want to be attrctive to men, but they don't base their own judgements on that attribute - hence why women value brains in a man :-)

Not all women are like that. I don't care about beauty, and it's not important to me.

A woman should want to be beautiful, and do the things that help her look beautiful, and feel beautiful. But that should be done for herself. Not for a man, not for others, not b/c some magazine says you should look this way b/c they said so. So I like to look beautiful for me..for my overall self esteem. I don't think woman get mad (well only my opinion) if a man reacts to their beauty, but if he is not interested in the package then that's a problem. The outer beauty will attract the man, but is he interested in the package? And sometimes these men don't know how to "react to a woman's beauty" in a positive way. Some of these men have no home training. Now I'm married so I'm out of the game lol but that's my input.

Women object to being judged on beauty alone and being judged by men who do not exact these stringent standards on their own sex!
The answer who posted the picture representing what HE thinks is beautiful compared to the ugly feminist is presuming that none of those young women are feminists, because they are displaying themselves for men in his subliminal view, whicg makes them available, and that everyone finds them attractive in equal measure...lets strip away the makeup and the hair dye and the lip gloss and take the pic again...a chimp with a paint box can paint a face man!
Again thumbs down for simply not saying you are right!!!! Feminism is all about our repressed anger because we have the politics of Germaine Greer and the face of Charles Laughton...lol

Beauty is important to a woman, they just don't want it to be important to men lol.
They don't think they should be defined by their beauty, but they certainly think men should
@Eleanor- Sorry darlin, im gonna have to disagree with you there. I've never fallen in love with beauty. Its once i've fallen in love, when she suddenly becomes the most beautiful thing on Earth. Before falling in love, she was never anyone i looked at as beautiful. Men look and imagine, but its not their beauty why we want relationships. You've got the wrong idea of men.....Its actually men who "believe" that real beauty is on the inside. Women do not even contemplate being with someone who is not very attractive....In fact they're the first to ridicule ugly people. Its men who have all the honourable traites you say we don't have and thats why God favours us
